What a kick-off ! This Saturday, on the occasion of the Bikers' Days event organised on the eve of the highly anticipated 6 Heures Moto de Spa-Francorchamps, the track record, which is ... 10 years old, fell ! It was owned by Werner Daemen with 2'24''730, but was beaten by Bastien Mackels, whose BMW S1000RR clocked a laptime of 2'24''248... just before the first raindrops hit the most beautiful circuit in the world!
"It is certain that in ten years, technology has progressed a lot, especially in terms of tyres," commented Bastien Mackels, who was very proud of his performance this Saturday morning. The latest generation BMW is also more efficient. However, there is always the issue of finding a free lap where no other bike will bother you ! Every time you get on the track in good conditions, you keep this record in a corner of your head. This was also the case this morning, and when I saw that the lap was going to be good, I gave it all..."
An almost perfect lap... but not quite ! "Indeed, I was a little hindered at the entrance of the Chicane," continues Bastien Mackels. Which means there's a way to go even faster. I think 2'23'' is doable, provided everything is perfect ! »
This Sunday, August 18th, day of the 6 Heures Moto de Spa-Francorchamps, the weather conditions will probably prevent the hunt for this lap record, but in Bastien Mackels' mind, the goal will be different. Together with Wim Van Den Broeck, rider of the BMW #91 Wilbers J&I Racing, he will be aiming for the victory in the overall standings in order to erase the frustrations of the early part of the season in the German Superbike Championship. The tone is set!
This 2019 edition of the 6 Heures Moto de Spa-Francorchamps will begin this Saturday evening, shortly after 6pm, in the heart of Spa, with a Parade that will allow fans and the general public to admire the bikes, riders and teams, with as icing on the cake the three breathtaking demos from the Circus Trial Tour and the Parys Printing Grid Girls Contest, which promises a first very hot clash between the sixty teams involved... Action !
